A walk in the park

Josh Patterson, Tom Bailey and Charlie Hyde, the three newest apprentice engineers at Matthews Environmental Solutions, pulled on their hiking boots and took part in the SETA Training charity hike on Sunday 11th October. An event that raised the magnificent total of £1500 for this year’s nominated charity: When You Wish Upon a Star.

As part of their apprenticeship at Matthews, manufacturers of waste incineratorshuman cremators and pet cremators, the young recruits initially undertake a six-month foundation course at Stockport Engineering Training Association (SETA) who every year organise a sponsored Apprentices Walk for charity.

The walk year this year was hosted at Lyme Park, Disley where the BBC’s award winning Pride and Prejudice series was filmed, and it meant that all 50 apprentices who took part had to walk the entire north circuit of the country estate, a distance of around 5-miles over undulating parkland and along challenging field and woodland tracks. Despite this challenge all three of our apprentices said how much they enjoyed their day and of course they were delighted at being able to help raise such an impressive amount. When You Wish Upon a Star is a charity that is dedicated to granting the wishes of children living with life threatening illnesses and this year SETA is raising money to help send children to see the ‘real’ Father Christmas at his home in Lapland.

Naturally, at Matthews we were more than delighted to sponsor our three apprentices and to make a contribution to this worthwhile cause, and we would like to congratulate everyone took part and who helped with the organisation of the charity hike.
