Abatement plant design is extremely dependent on the types of pollutants to be controlled.  Each broad class of pollutant requires specific components to either destroy it in combustion or capture it from the exhaust stream before release.  Temperature and pressure conditions must be carefully controlled to prevent or manage follow-on reactions that can lead to the formation of other hazardous materials.  Managing these pollutants requires a clear understanding of what is present in the waste stream as well as what strategies are available for control.
